Dr. Lucian Sulica is the inaugural holder of the Sean Parker Professorship of Laryngology, and Director of the Sean Parker Institute for the Voice at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. His practice is limited to voice disorders. He has a special interest in treatment of injuries of the vocal fold from voice use, particularly in performers, and in neurologic voice disorders, including vocal fold paralysis and paresis, spasmodic dysphonia and tremor. Dr. Sulica has also been a leader in the development of procedures for the treatment of voice disorders in the office, without the need for general anesthesia.
Dr. Sulica is the recipient the American Laryngological Association's Casselberry Award for distinguished research in laryngology, awarded only 27 times in its 105-year history for work on the mechanics of vocal fold injury. He has authored more than 100 journal articles, 40 book chapters and 3 books. He is President-Elect of the American Laryngological Association, and a fellow of the American Laryngologic, Rhinologic and Otologic Society (the Triologic Society).
Dr. Seth Dailey is Laryngeal Fellowship Director and Professor at the Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, WI, USA.
Dr. Dailey not only serves as the current laryngology fellowship director but he started UW’s program in 2010. He is the Course Director of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Laryngeal Dissection Course, which was pioneered by him in 2015, and he is also the Conference director of the Airway Conference initiated in 2019 by him. Dr. Dailey initiated this cross-disciplinary conference in collaboration with the Otolaryngology, Thoracic surgery, anesthesiology, and interventional pulmonology divisions.
Dr. Dailey has authored more than 100 journal articles and book chapters and is Associate Editor of Laryngology, Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology and Editorial Board Member of Auris Nasus Larynx.
Dr. Dailey is the current President of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association and is a fellow and on the Abstract Review Committee of the Triologic Society.
Priya Krishna MD, MS, FACS is a laryngologist, Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Loma Linda University Voice and Swallowing Center in Loma Linda, California, USA. She did otolaryngology training at Southern Illinois University then completed a 2 year fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh under Dr. Clark Rosen. She stayed on as faculty at University of Pittsburgh during which time she had extramural funding for research in the area of vocal fold scarring. She joined Loma Linda University in 2011. Since that time she has explored various interests within laryngology including vocal fold atrophy, injection laryngoplasty, behavioral treatment for chronic cough and more recently reflux related dysphagia. She practices nearly the full breadth of laryngology.
Dr Lance Maron is an ENT and voice specialist at the Parklane Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. Besides fulfilling the scope of a general ENT, Dr. Maron has a particular interest in Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology and Advanced Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. He has also established “The Voice and Swallowing Centre @ Netcare Parklane Hospital” - a multidisciplinary centre that cares for voice and swallowing disorders.
Since 2008 he has formed part of the academic faculty of many international laryngology conferences and workshops and is a member of the Voice Foundation. In 2017, he was elected onto the board of the IAP - International Association of Phonosurgery.
Dr. Maron was on the organizing committee of the annual ENT Congress “2010: A Laryngeal Odyssey”. He currently forms part of a Multidisciplinary Reflux Focus Group and served as editor and contributing author of “ENT FOCUS”, a local publication distributed to ENT’s, Paediatricians and GP’s. In 2018, he became the founding member and president of the Laryngology Society of South Africa.
He has been a part of the performing arts since childhood and has played the lead roles in many professional theatre productions as a child and adult. He also appeared on television and had a small lead role in a BBC made feature film.
With this passion and personal experience in the performing arts , Dr Maron has set out to gain insight into the super specialty of Laryngology, concentrating on the management of complicated voice disorders and care of the professional voice. This has enabled him to combine his capabilities as a performing artist and medical doctor.
He has worked on various South African theatre productions as resident ENT, assisting with education of the cast regarding voice care and prevention of vocal injury and management of vocal medical problems.
Dr Mara Behlau is a Speech and Language Pathologist, Voice Specialist, Consultant in Human Communication for individuals and companies. She is also Coach with specialization in training or coaching for businesspersons and has been certified by the Neuroleadership Group - NLG Brasil. She is an accredited Coach ACC by International Coach Federation – ICF. She holds a PhD in Human Communication Disorders, with postdoctoral degree at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. She is currently professor in the discipline of Interpersonal Relationship - Business Communication in the INSPER, São Paulo. She is also permanent professor at the Graduate Program in Disorders of Human Communication at UNIFESP (Escola Paulista de Medicina). Moreover, she directs the CEV, an institution where she coordinates the CECEV, a Specialization Course in Voice for SLP and the FIV, an Integrative Program in Voice for professionals of different academic backgrounds.
Peter C. Belafsky, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H. is Professor and the Director of the Center for Voice and Swallowing at the University of California, Davis. He is the Vice-chairman of Academic Affairs for the Department of Otolaryngology at the UC Davis School of Medicine and is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
His research interests are focused on the development and application of innovative translational treatments for complex voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. He has dedicated his career to building an internationally recognized Swallowing Center. The trans-disciplinary Center at UC Davis brings together outstanding physicians, speech and language pathologists, veterinarians, nutritionists, radiology technicians, general surgeons, gastroenterologists, and translational scientists to provide innovative approaches to the diagnosis and management of quaternary voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. He has pioneered minimally invasive treatments for voice and swallowing disorders, including unsedated treatment of laryngeal cancer, polyps, leukoplakia, and papillomas; tracheal and esophageal strictures; and office-based esophagoscopy. In October of 2010, he was the lead investigator on the second larynx transplant in the world on a woman who had been unable to speak for over a decade. Dr. Belafsky has a dual appointment at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and has also pioneered numerous treatments for small animals (cats/dogs) with profound swallowing and breathing problems. His team has saved countless suffering animals and his work has led to innovations in both humans and animals. His trans-disciplinary approach has resulted in 5 first-in-human surgeries and 7 first-in-canine surgeries. He has over 200 publications, 5 textbooks, numerous patents, and has helped initiate 3 start-up companies based on technology he has developed at UC Davis. Dr. Belafsky remains restless with current treatment limitations and has dedicated his career to the development of innovative therapies to help suffering patients with dysphagia.
Robert T. Sataloff, MD, DMA, FACS is Professor and Chairman, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Academic Specialties, Drexel University College of Medicine. He also holds Adjunct Professorships in the Departments of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University, Temple University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; and is on the faculty of the Academy of Vocal Arts. He serves as Conductor of the Thomas Jefferson University Choir and is also a professional singer and singing teacher. He holds a degree in Music Theory and Composition; a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance and has completed Residency in Otolaryngology and a Fellowship in Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Sataloff is Chairman of the Boards of Directors of the Voice Foundation and of the American Institute for Voice and Ear Research. He was President of the American Laryngological Association, the International Association of Phonosurgery, and The American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology. Dr. Sataloff is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Voice; Editor Emeritus of Ear, Nose and Throat Journal; Associate Editor of the Journal of Singing; on the Editorial Board of Medical Problems of Performing Artists, and is an editorial reviewer for numerous others. He has over 1,000 publications including 69 books. He has invented numerous microlaryngeal instruments, ossicular replacement prostheses and a novel laryngeal prosthesis (patent pending). He holds a patent on a unique thyroplasty implant. Dr. Sataloff has developed many novel surgical procedures including total temporal bone resection for formerly untreatable skull base malignancy, laryngeal microflap and mini-microflap procedures, vocal fold lipoinjection and implantation, and others. Dr. Sataloff is recognized as one of the founders of the field of voice, having written the first modern comprehensive article on care of singers, and the first book on care of the professional voice.
Sunil P. Verma, M.D., M.B.A. is board-certified and fellowship trained in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
After pursuing his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, Dr. Verma completed medical school and residency training in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Southern California. He then completed a fellowship in Laryngology under a team of world-renowned surgeons and scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2020 he received an executive MBA at the Merage School of Business at UC Irvine.
Dr. Verma is an expert in the management of voice, breathing and swallowing disorders, and is well known for taking care of the most complex of conditions. He regularly treats singers, actors and other professional voice users. Using state-of-the-art equipment, he is able to perform numerous procedures, such as laser surgery and vocal fold injections, in the office rather than the operating room. Dr. Verma performs minimally-invasive laser assisted surgery for laryngeal cancer, vocal fold lesions, Zenker’s diverticulum and airway stenosis with the goal of preserving normal anatomy, improving function and enhancing his patients’ quality of life.
As an Associate Professor at the University of California, Irvine, he enjoys teaching medical students and resident physicians. Dr. Verma is an active educator, and regularly travels throughout the country and internationally to teach other surgeons. He co-wrote a textbook “Laryngeal Dissection and Surgical Guide,” and has authored over 40 scientific publications and numerous book chapters. He is the medical director of the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as is an Assistant Dean in Clinical Affairs for UCI School of Medicine.
VyVy Young, MD, is an Associate Professor in the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center. Dr. Young pursued her Otolaryngology training at the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky and fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice at the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center.
She currently serves the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee and Executive Committee for ENThealth.org. She is a Fellow of the American Laryngological Association and the current chair of the Finance and Audit Committee of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association. Her clinical practice covers all aspects of laryngology including disorders affecting voice, airway, and swallowing, although her current research efforts focus on transgender voice, aging voice, vocal fold paralysis, and voice outcomes research. She also has particular interest in gender, diversity, and wellness issues in medicine.
Dr. Milind Kirtane is the Hon. Consulting ENT Surgeon at P. D. Hinduja National Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital, Saifee Hospital and Prince Ali Khan Hospital, Mumbai. He is Prof. Emeritus at Seth G. S. Medical College & KEM Hospital and is the Hon. ENT consultant to His Excellency The Governor of Maharashtra. He has been honoured with numerous awards, notably the Dr. R. A. F. Cooper Award of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI), Lifetime Achievement Award AOI, 2014, and the prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy award in the category of “Recognition of the best talents in encouraging the development of different branches of Medicine” in 2003. He was the first Indian to be elected to the Barany Society, Sweden. He received “Tato- Claussen Sponderpreis” award by the Japanese Neuro Equilibriometric Society for his work in Neuro-otology in 2002. He has been the Founder President of The Sinus Endoscopic Society of India, Past President of The Cochlear Implant Group of India and has been a member of the American Rhinology Society. He has authored books on endoscopic sinus surgery and has been the editor of a 6 volume textbook of otolaryngology. In recognition for his services in the healthcare sector he was awarded the PADMASHRI by the Govt. of India in 2014, The Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year award, and Times Health Care Achievers Award Mumbai in 2018for contribution to the field of Medicine. His main work today is in the field of Cochlear Implant surgery and he has performed more than 3000 surgeries. Dr Kirtane has mentored trainee surgeons from all over the country and helped them establish 30 such CI centres all over the country.
Dr. Menon is the Director of Dr. Jayakumar’s Laryngology Group, Thiruvananthapuram and also Heads the Department of Laryngology, PRS Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram and Aster Medcity, Kochi. He is the Head of the Dysphagia unit at Amrita institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and has been the Founder Vice President & Past President of Association of Phonosurgeons of India.He is the course director of his annual Fellowship in laryngology. Dr Jayakumar has many papers in National & International journals to his credit and has contributed chapters in five text books on Laryngology, edited one text book on Swallowing Disorders in Head & Neck Cancer Surgery. He has described a clinical sign in the diagnosis of Abductor Spasmodic Dysphonia.
Dr. Nupur Kapoor Nerurkar is an ENT surgeon, who has graduated in 1994 from KEM Hospital with a first rank in the Bombay University. Following her Laryngology training on the Hargobind Fellowship in 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she initiated a Voice Clinic at Sion Hospital, where she was an Associate Professor at that time.
Since 2004, she is practicing exclusively as a Laryngologist and is currently heading the Bombay Hospital Voice & Swallowing Center. Dr. Nerurkar is also the DNB Co-ordinator of the ENT Department at Bombay Hospital and Director of the Laryngology Fellowship program.
Dr. Nerurkar is a fellow of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association as well as the American Laryngological Association and an Executive Committee member of the International Association of Phonosurgeons. She is a past President of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India (APSI) and currently on the Governing Council of the Association.
She is the Chief Editor of the “Textbook of Laryngology” which is the Official Textbook of the APSI and has also authored an “Atlas of Phonomicrosurgery” in 2017. Dr. Nupur is currently an Associate Editor of LPV, which is the official publication of the British Laryngology Association and she is also an Associate Editor of the Laryngology Volume of Thieme Publications “Otorhinolaryngology and HNS”. She has over 90 publications and book chapters to her credit and has delivered over 250 presentations in India and Abroad including multiple orations, namely, Dr. V.P. Sood Oration, Dr. T. V. Krishna Rao Oration, A.O.I Rajasthan State Oration, Dr. V. Pillai Oration.Dr Raman Pillai Oration, Dr. W. G. Atre Oration, Dr Kurulkar Anatomy Oration and Dr. Manu Kothari Humanities Oration.
Dr. Nupur has been awarded the Gold Medal in Junior Consultant Award Category and the First Prize in Video Session category at the National A.O.I. Conference (2005), the First Prize at Phonocon 2006 and the Third Prize at Senior Consultant Award Category at National A.O.I. Conference. She was awarded the David Howard prize in Laryngology 2012 and has been voted as Mumbai’s Top Doctor in Voice Category in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020(Impact Initiative), published in India Today.
Dr. Nerurkar has been Course Director of 13 Live Phonosurgery workshops at Bombay hospital to date and multiple Phonosurgery workshops all over the country.
Dr. Roychoudhary is the Professor and HOD department of ENT, Vivekananda Institute of medical Sciences, Kolkata. He is the President of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India (APSI). He is an expert laryngologist, Skull base surgeon and otologist and has been a mentor for many Cochlear implant programs all over the West Bengal and neighbouring states. He has authored several book chapters and articles in journals of repute and has been the co-editor of “Textbook of Laryngology”, the official textbook publication of the APSI.
Dr. Raman is a consultant ENT surgeon at Manipal hospital Bengaluru. His area of interest is pediatric airway and also skullbase surgeries. He has been invited for several prestigious international orations all over India and abroad. He also regularly conducts pediatric airway workshops. He is a member of the Aerospace Medicine Society of India and has received the Chief of Air Staff Silver medal.
Dr. Handa is the Chairman of ENT at MedantaMedicity, Gurgaon. Formerly an Associate Professor at AIIMS, Delhi, he has more than 27 years of experience and is an expert Cochlear implant surgeon and voice and laser surgeon. He is former President of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India and was the association’s Founder Secretary.
